So, we are leaving tomorrow!!! As much as we've LOVED Spain, we are excited to get home and see our friends, family, and puppies!!! Our last day in Barcelona was spent with walks down the Ramblas, and the Barri Gotic…then with a (FINALLY!!) Birthday dinner at a lovely restaurant...
We started at the Plaza de Cataluyna..
As we walked down the Ramblas, our guide book took us to intricate features that we might otherwise miss….like this fountain that still works, and many locals use (although we couldn't get it to work!) - there's a trick to it supposedly…guess you have to be a local..:)
We found a church that is dedicated to Bethlehem…
A famous bakery that has been open since the 1800s..Escribe…we had to try it, of course..
And we chose two macaroons! Pistacchio, and Strawberry…I've never had a macaroon…it was delicious!
As we continued on towards the port, we found the monument of Christopher Columbus pointing to the New World :)
On our way back to the Barri Gotic, we stopped for some tapas and sangria wine :) Matt kept singing Jerry Jeff Walker's, "I Love Sangria Wine"…
Below is a restaurant called "4 Cats". It was named because the owner told his friends he was going to open a restaurant that was always open - 24 hours a day - and they told him "the only people who will be there will be you and four cats." Which meant, him and four crazy people :)
Just so happens, this is where Pablo Picasso and his friends met up and drank beer often..
Matt found my store!!
Then we headed to the Jewish Quarter…during the Civil war, most Jewish people were forced to live in a tiny block…this was their temple...
This looks medieval, but was actually built sometime in the early 1900s…it's really cool though!!
I love this picture of Matt's face while reading our guide book. I told him tonight at dinner that my favorite part of our trip was walking arm in arm with him as he read me the history of this city, and Madrid. It was so romantic to me..
The old Royal Palace before the capitol moved to Madrid..
And, then!!! My birthday dinner…on our last night…we finally had a chance to celebrate!
We shared a large delicious salad, some gnocchi, and paella...
Then, some brownie and ice-cream that the waiter put candles on…trick candles, mind you…that Matt had to eventually extinguish to get them to quit burning!!
And Matt had an irish coffee…spanish style, of course..
And the waiter brought over some last minute birthday celebration that he said we had to have because it was my birthday, "on the house"…so sweet of him, right??
We get back on the plane to come home in the morning…can't wait to be back home, though this is a trip that I will treasure in my heart always…
Goodnight!
So fun!!! I want to go there now. :) Glad you are feeling better and it looks like you had a blast- can't wait to hear all about it over Mexican food soon. :) Love you!
